The next morning, Lucian catches the scent again on the way back to his room from breakfast. He follows it without thinking, glad his sense of smell is better than most wolves. It leads him outside again, but this time, with the sunlight, he can easily see that the source of the scent appears to be Iris.

She’s sat on the wall that sections off the warrior’s training grounds from the gardens. Her face is sad as she watches them. He wants to put a smile on it.

Lucian is about to approach when Viola appears and links her arm with his.

“Lucian, we meet again in the gardens? It must be fate. Let me show you my favorite spot.”

Iris glances at them, watching as Viola drags Lucian away, deeper into the gardens. She turns back to the warriors. She had only just started coming out to watch them up close a few days ago.
