---- Chapter 1 Chase Whitmore kept a mistress, and Nora Langston chose to look the other way. When he threw a drone-lit birthday celebration that dazzled all of Bellwood, she was vacationing in Zurich with their daughter. When he brought that mistress to his office and screwed her behind closed doors, Nora watched the security footage-stone-faced- then turned it off.

It wasn't until the mistress, out of jealousy, kidnapped her daughter, and both of them fell off a cliff and ended up in the hospital, that things finally broke. Nora raced to the hospital. Just in time to hear the doctor tell Chase, "The blood supply is low. We can only save one-either the child or the adult." Chase hesitated. Under Nora's piercing gaze, he finally muttered, "gave the child." Nora watched him sign the form, his pen trembling ever so slightly. He paused for a full thirty seconds. In the end, he still wrote down their daughter's name.
