Chapter 9 Savannah was stunned after watching the video. Then, she completely blew up at Morgan because she realized that what she'd seen of Morgan saving a drowning child had only been the tail end of the whole thing. She'd caught only a snippet of the commotion. The one who'd actually jumped into the water and saved the kid, emerging sopping wet from the water... was me. After that, she started searching for me even more fervently than before. She threw all the Reed family affairs aside and swore she wouldn't rest until she found me.

A month later, a tourism promo video for Awan exploded online. In a split second of a landscape shot, my figure appeared in the background. Less than 24 hours after the video went up, I stepped out for a walk and ran into Savannah. She really lived up to being the Reed family heiress-she managed to track me down, just from a single second of footage. "Chase, I've missed you so much," she said. I put on the perfect startled, frightened expression and turned to run. But I didn't give it my all. Savannah quickly caught up and grabbed my arm. "I'm sorry, Chase. This is my fault.

I was wrong from the very beginning," she said desperately. I twisted and tried to break free, but not enough to actually get away. Trapped in her hold, I let out the speech I'd prepared long ago. I even made sure my tone was pleading. "I don't understand what you're talking about. We're already divorced, so please, Savannah, let me go. I never wanted your money-I just wanted a home of my own. I was wrong to take Morgan's place in your life. You loved him so much... I can understand you wanting to get back at me on his behalf. "If you want me to pay you back, how do you want me to do it?

My money or my life? If it's money, I'll sell my blood to repay you. If it's my life... you can have that, too." By the end, my voice had gone hoarse. My eyes were full of bitterness. A crushing sorrow spread through Savannah. She wrapped her arms around my waist like she was clinging to some treasure she'd lost and found. "Chase, I don't love him. From the start, I loved the kind man who saved that drowning child. Later, I loved the man who had less than ten grand to his name and still gave every last cent to me. Now, I finally know that it was you all along. It's always been you.

You're the one I've loved this whole time. "I'm sorry I hurt you. Come back with me, okay? I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. And don't forget... We have a baby." 1/2 I struggled as she spoke, then stared in shock at her belly when she finished. "We have a baby?" Savannah kept apologizing. Then, she pressed her lips to mine, and I tasted the saltiness of our tears as we kissed. Slowly, I stopped resisting and pulled her fully into my arms, holding her as tightly as I could. "Chase, I love you," she whispered. Now, I finally had both the guilt and love I'd been after.
