Buried Feelings Burn by Joseph King 238 Chapter 238 Gideon's POV The darkness was my enemy. I couldn't remember why I was fighting, only that it was essential that I wake up. I punched upwards through the shadows. My limbs felt heavy and unresponsive, and I knew I still dreamed because the darkness was made of hands that clutched at me and tried to drag me back down into oblivion. There was one gleam of gold in the darkness, a radiant thread that seemed perpetually at the corner of my eyes. It moved when I tried to look at it directly, but its gleaming light was present nonetheless.
When the anguish swamped over me, the golden thread pulled me forward, up and out. Avery. Her face swam before my eyes. I couldn't remember anything, but Avery needed me. I could feel it. She was hurting. I needed to go to her. I needed to save her. My hands stopped their mindless flailing and instead, I reached for the golden cord. When I touched it, a thrum resounded in the darkness, and I was yanked upwards. When I opened my eyes, I was in my office. Night had fallen, my limbs were leaden, but I flexed them carefully and rose to my feet. Though my head was spinning, my vision was clearing.
There was a plate of cookies and an empty glass on my desk. All of it laced with Avery's consciousness- stealing draught, no doubt. I threw back my head and roared, remembering her deception. As I heard my warriors pounding down the hallways to my office at my summons, I threw open my office door and leaped out. "Find me the Luna and her mother," I snapped. My warriors wasted no time asking questions, they saluted and whirled, dashing off to follow my commands. I stalked up the stairs to Avery's room, but felt no surprise when I found it empty.
She had felt so good in my arms, my body supplied the physical memory unhelpfully, and I groaned and rubbed at the lingering headache in my temples. She had tried to deceive me, and she had successfully drugged me, but parts of it were real. The way she had melted into my embrace. The way she had accidentally admitted that she loved me. I would hold onto those feelings while I searched for her. They would keep me warm in the sudden cold I. felt with her gone. I had already hunted for her once, and I had found her finally, 1/3 Chapter 238 +25 Bonus I would not lose her again.
Minutes, then hours ticked by. From the windows of the pack house I could see my warriors swarming over the village and the forest and fields beyond. I knew they hadn't yet found her, but they would. I may have slept for a few hours, but in these territories, that still limited possible destinations to only a handful. I doubted she had thrown her recovering mother into the wilds and fens, so they would be in a vehicle of some sort, and there were only so many roads leading out of town. My warriors would drive fast, and they would look for any sign that vehicles had passed by recently.
