Chapter 288 Even Lila could see that Mia was hiding from him. "Get your ass to the office for work now. If you're late, I'm docking your entire month's bonus." Ethan threw out those two sentences and hung up. "What? Hey! No, you told me I could rest for two days!" Lila scrambled upstairs to change her clothes, cursing Ethan under her breath as she rushed toward the company. Meanwhile, Ethan unbuttoned the top few buttons of his collar. The computer screen was dark, reflecting his tense features.

He pressed his tongue against his cheek, his handsome face looking solemn and stern, mixed with a deep sense of confusion. After a long while, he placed a call. "I want Mia to admit she's pregnant on her own." "I'm a doctor, not a magic turtle in a wishing well," the voice on the other end said after a pause. Ethan was unmoved. "The sooner, the better." ee The layer of secrecy, though not yet punctured, was already fraying in the wind. Mia's heart felt like it was hanging by a thread. After finishing the meal with Lila, she returned to Nina Torres's place.

The moment she stepped through the door, she heard Nina shouting. "Stop whining at me! Get Carly back to school right now!" Hearing the door open, Nina glanced over, met Mia's eyes, and mouthed the words 'Aunt May.' Mia set her bag down and walked over quietly, sitting next to Nina. "Fine. We'll handle the paperwork. I'll send it over tomorrow morning. Have the money ready and give it to me then." Whatever Aunt May said next made Nina's expression soften slightly. After hanging up, Mia asked, "What happened?" "I called to ask about the money, but she dodged the question.

She told me Carly wants to go back to school but is missing a step-a medical clearance certificate from the hospital." The school currently believed Carly had a terminal illness and wouldn't let her return. Even though Aunt May claimed the illness was a misunderstanding, the school refused to listen without a health certificate. "Don't you have Cole Preston's contact info? Why don't you ask him for another favor?" Nina pushed the problem toward Mia. Normally, Carly could just go to the hospital for a check-up.

But the school was being difficult and didn't want to readmit her; they demanded the certificate by tomorrow morning. Mia figured that while Cole didn't have a massive network at the hospital, getting a health certificate shouldn't be hard. She steeled herself and called Cole. 'Tl handle it for you right now. Come to the hospital and find me." Whether out of sympathy for Carly or something else, Cole agreed very quickly. "I have a dinner meeting with a fan tonight, Mia. Can you go by yourself?" Nina was in a bind. She had even prepared the cash to pay the guy back the moment they met.
