Chapter 9 I found it almost comical. My joining Nova Group wasn't exactly a secret, yet he still put on that shocked act for the benefit of an audience. I shot him a glance and didn't bother responding. I stepped forward to greet the clients who'd come to join I shook hands with each of them warmly, helped them put on their guest badges one by one, and smiled more easily and confidently than I ever had at Pinnacle. After Charles froze for a moment, he suddenly threw himself in front of the clients like a bouncer, blocking the entrance to our conference room.

His breathing grew labored, and his voice turned frantic. "You can't leave! We've worked together for ten years! Pinnacle's products have proven themselves, you can't just walk away because you didn't make money this year. We've got a long road ahead..." "A long road ahead, my ass." One client swore openly. "One year without profit? Were we just playing pretend? You were lining your pockets and living it up, and you expected the dozens of people under me to starve? Charles, what's wrong with you? Anita left and you lost your mind?" "Exactly," another client snapped.

"Our money didn't grow on trees. Why would we burn it to inflate your numbers? Move it; stop blocking people trying to make money." Charles was shoved around like a top and ended up pushed to the side. When he watched his conference room empty out in minutes, he finally lost his fake composure. He turned and roared at me. "Anita! How could you be so vicious? You resigned and then poached clients? Happy now? You really wanted to drive me bankrupt that badly?" I looked at him and smiled with pure contempt. "Charles, your knack for blaming others has only gotten worse. When Mr.

Powell didn't renew, didn't I tell you to look at your product and your policies? I told you I couldn't control it. Did you listen?" He froze, and I kept rubbing salt in the wound. "You were stubborn, you pushed Elisa's plan, and you made sure clients saw no profit. That was the main reason they didn't renew. What did that have to do with me?" "Charles, clients care about profit, not feelings. You're a businessman too. How could you not understand that?" My words hit him like a bolt of lightning. His eyes turned bloodshot, and he spun on Elisa with a vicious Chapter 9 90.00% glare.

A sharp slap cracked through the lobby. Everything fell silent. Elisa got hit so hard she staggered in a circle and collapsed to the floor. Her cheek immediately turned red and swollen. "Elisa, you little snake," Charles snarled, veins popping on his forehead. "If you hadn't whispered in my ear that you could keep Anita in line, would I have rigged those draws and forced her to take Christmas duty three years in a row? And what was that garbage policy you made? Because of you, the company won't have a single order next year, we'll go bankrupt.
