Chapter 517: "Fred, you..." "You're too slow," he cut in, his voice steady. In seconds, they were inside the elevator, Fred gently placing her down. He then maneuvered Joyce's wheelchair in and turned, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Listen, things are getting tight. If the people at the banquet catch on, you won't be able to get out. So, no arguments. Let me handle it. After all, I'm young and strong. Two patients are a breeze for me." With a firm press, the elevator doors whisked shut. In the enclosed space, Belinda closed her eyes, a bittersweet smile tugging at her lips.

"Thank you," she whispered. He was right. She was too slow. Knowing the weight of responsibility, Belinda realized she might not be strong enough to take Joyce away all by herself before someone noticed. "Don't even mention it," Fred said with a grin, glancing at Joyce. "Speaking of which, I didn't know vegetative patients could, you know, look around." Belinda smiled back at Joyce, then leaned in and explained softly, "Think of it like being trapped inside your own body.

You can see, hear, but you're stuck, unable to move or even speak." As Belinda spoke, Joyce's gaze remained fixed on her, filled with an apology and a tenderness that tugged at Belinda's heart. Fred's eyebrows shot up. "So, it's... painful?" "Yes." Belinda instinctively reached out, her touch gentle as she stroked Joyce's head. "She's never had a happy life. After she became vegetative, she was put on house arrest by the person she hated the most, never to see the light of day.

So, while I'm still breathing, I have to take her away, give her some freedom." The last words hung heavy in the air. In the wheelchair, Joyce strained to look up, her eyes welling with silent tears. : gⲁ۞۞ν۞ⅽ The elevator made its stop at the underground floor of the building, where the parking garage was located. Before Fred wheeled Joyce out of the elevator, he crouched down and carried Belinda on his back. He walked with Belinda on his back while simultaneously pushing the wheelchair. She felt sad that he had to carry her like this.

So much strength and energy emanated from him as he carried her. In all honesty, Fred was only four years younger than she was. Yet he carried her so energetically while pushing the wheelchair. To think he did both and walked swiftly was impressive. She, on the other hand, wasn't even thirty yet, but lacked vigor and was being carried like an old woman. "Which car is it? Is it that one?" Fred's sudden question jerked her back to reality. She intuitively looked in the direction Fred gestured towards with his head. She was surprised, as the car did look familiar.
